Publishers can reach to HUGE mobile campaign budget of advertisers in Japan.
According to Dentsu Inc,the market size of mobile advertising in Japan is $1.2B(\120B) in 2009.These budget was used for campaigns on Japanese media for Japanese users.
But things changed since the global contents platform and devices came up.
Users can access to any apps/sites and do not matter who is the publisher. Especially contents like games and music,it is less influenced by difference of languages.
So you can find a lot of non-Japanese publishers` apps on AppStore for Japan.
This means that if publisher supply traffic to ad-network like Google,AdMob etc,they can get revenue from advertisers in Japan. It was hard till Apple AppStore started.
There are roughly 10 Android phones debut during fall to winter in Japan. Users,publishers and marketers are recently watching at how Android expand to the market. We estimate that there is roughly 4,5million iPhone and a million Android phones in Japan and these users are categorized as active users to use mobile apps,contents or service. In 2011,mobile contents providers move to Android platform.Their marketing budget keeps large share in mobile marketing,so it will be a big impact against mobile advertising agencies, publishers who run business on the feature phone and could be a big chance to global adnetworks and publishers.
There are recently some announcement to react to the big change.
- Cyber Communications Inc announced to tied up with Jumptap and involve their their ad-serving technology.
- Dentsu Inc and Cyber Communications Inc become a main represetive of Apple iAd.
- Japanese big SNS GREE released three iPhone apps
2,011 could be a main turning point of where mobile marketing budget goes.
